हनुमान चालीसा

दोहा १

श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि। बरनऊँ रघुबर बिमल जसु जो दायकु फल चारि॥

Shri Guru Charan Saroj Raj, Nij Manu Mukuru Sudhari; Baranau Raghubar Bimal Jasu, Jo Dayaku Phal Chari.

Having cleansed the mirror of my mind with the dust of the lotus feet of Sri Guru, I describe the pure glory of Sri Raghuveer, which bestows the four fruits of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha).

दोहा २

बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके सुमिरौं पवन-कुमार। बल बुद्धि बिद्या देहु मोहिं हरहु कलेस बिकार॥

Buddhiheen Tanu Janike, Sumirau Pavan-Kumar; Bal Buddhi Vidya Dehu Mohi, Harahu Kalesh Bikar.

Knowing myself to be devoid of wisdom, I meditate on Pawan Kumar (the Son of the Wind). Bestow upon me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and take away all my afflictions and impurities.

चौपाई 1

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर। जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर॥

Jai Hanuman Gyan Gun Sagar, Jai Kapis Tihun Lok Ujagar.

Victory to Lord Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtue! Victory to the Lord of monkeys, whose fame illuminates all three worlds.

चौपाई 2

राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा। अंजनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा॥

Ram Doot Atulit Bal Dhama, Anjani-Putra Pavansut Nama.

You are Sri Rama's messenger, the abode of incomparable strength, called Anjani's son and the Son of the Wind.

चौपाई 3

महाबीर बिक्रम बजरंगी। कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी॥

Mahabir Bikram Bajrangi, Kumati Nivar Sumati Ke Sangi.

O mighty hero, courageous and with limbs as strong as thunderbolts! You dispel evil thoughts and accompany the wise and righteous.

चौपाई 4

कंचन बरन बिराज सुबेसा। कानन कुंडल कुंचित केसा॥

Kanchan Baran Biraj Subesa, Kanan Kundal Kunchit Kesa.

Your radiant complexion is golden, adorned in splendid garments, with earrings in your ears and lovely curling hair.

चौपाई 5

हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै। काँधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै॥

Hath Bajra Au Dhwaja Biraje, Kandhe Moonj Janeu Saje.

In your hands rest the thunderbolt and the sacred victory flag; upon your shoulder rests the sacred thread of munja grass.

चौपाई 6

संकर सुवन केसरीनंदन। तेज प्रताप महा जग बंदन॥

Sankar Suvan Kesarinandan, Tej Pratap Maha Jag Bandan.

Incarnation of Lord Shiva and son of Kesari, your radiant majesty and immense prowess are worshipped throughout the universe.

चौपाई 7

बिद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर। राम काज करिबे को आतुर॥

Vidyavan Guni Ati Chatur, Ram Kaj Karibe Ko Aatur.

You are the repository of all learning, virtuous and supremely wise, ever eager and joyful to accomplish Lord Rama's tasks.

चौपाई 8

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया। राम लखन सीता मन बसिया॥

Prabhu Charitra Sunibe Ko Rasiya, Ram Lakhan Sita Man Basiya.

You delight in listening to the glories of the Lord; Sri Rama, Lakshmana, and Mother Sita dwell eternally in your heart.

चौपाई 9

सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा। बिकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा॥

Sukshma Roop Dhari Siyahin Dikhawa, Bikat Roop Dhari Lanka Jarawa.

Assuming a microscopic form, you appeared before Mother Sita; assuming a colossal, awe-inspiring form, you set Lanka ablaze.

चौपाई 10

भीम रूप धरि असुर संहारे। रामचंद्र के काज संवारे॥

Bheem Roop Dhari Asura Samhare, Ramchandra Ke Kaj Sanware.

Assuming a formidable warrior form, you vanquished the demons and fulfilled all tasks for Lord Ramachandra.

चौपाई 11

लाय सजीवन लखन जियाये। श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाये॥

Laye Sajivan Lakhan Jiyaye, Shri Raghubir Harashi Ur Laye.

Bringing the life-saving Sanjivani herb, you revived Lakshmana; overwhelmed with joy, Sri Raghubira embraced you to His heart.

चौपाई 12

रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई। तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई॥

Raghupati Keenhi Bahut Badai, Tum Mam Priya Bharatahi Sam Bhai.

Lord Rama praised you wholeheartedly, saying: 'You are as dear to me as my own brother Bharata.'

चौपाई 13

सहस बदन तुम्हरो जस गावैं। अस कहि श्रीपति कंठ लगावैं॥

Sahas Badan Tumharo Jas Gavein, As Kahi Shripati Kanth Lagavein.

'The thousand-headed serpent Shesha sings your praise!' Saying so, the Lord of Sri embraced you.

चौपाई 14

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा। नारद सारद सहित अहीसा॥

Sanakadika Brahmadi Munisa, Narad Sarad Sahit Ahisa.

Sages like Sanaka, Brahma, Narada, Goddess Saraswati, and the king of serpents continually extol your virtues.

चौपाई 15

जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते। कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहाँ ते॥

Jam Kuber Digpal Jahan Te, Kabi Kobid Kahi Sake Kahan Te.

Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions, along with poets and scholars—how could they ever fully express your glory?

चौपाई 16

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा। राम मिलाय राज पद दीन्हा॥

Tum Upkar Sugreevahin Keenha, Ram Milaye Raj Pad Deenha.

You rendered great service to Sugriva by uniting him with Sri Rama and helping him regain his royal throne.

चौपाई 17

तुम्हरो मंत्र बिभीषन माना। लंकेस्वर भए सब जग जाना॥

Tumharo Mantra Bibhishan Mana, Lankeshwar Bhaye Sab Jag Jana.

Vibhishana heeded your counsel and became the king of Lanka, as the whole world knows.

चौपाई 18

जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानू। लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू॥

Jug Sahasra Jojan Par Bhanu, Leelyo Tahi Madhur Phal Janu.

The Sun, situated millions of yojanas away, you leaped to swallow mistaking it for a sweet ripe fruit.

चौपाई 19

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं। जलधि लाँघि गये अचरज नाहीं॥

Prabhu Mudrika Meli Mukh Mahin, Jaladhi Langhi Gaye Acharaj Nahin.

Holding the Lord's signet ring in your mouth, you leaped across the vast ocean; it is of no surprise for you.

चौपाई 20

दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते। सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते॥

Durgam Kaj Jagat Ke Jete, Sugam Anugrah Tumhre Tete.

All difficult and arduous tasks in this world become easy and effortlessly achievable by your divine grace.

चौपाई 21

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे। होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे॥

Ram Duare Tum Rakhware, Hot Na Aagya Binu Paisare.

You are the sentinel at Lord Rama's celestial door; no one can enter without your sanction.

चौपाई 22

सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना। तुम रच्छक काहू को डर ना॥

Sab Sukh Lahai Tumhari Sarna, Tum Rachhak Kahu Ko Dar Na.

All joy and tranquility are found in your refuge; when you are our protector, whom should we fear?

चौपाई 23

आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै। तीनों लोक हाँक तें काँपै॥

Aapan Tej Samharo Aape, Teenon Lok Haank Te Kaanpe.

You alone can withstand your immense radiance and power; all three worlds tremble at your mighty roar.

चौपाई 24

भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै। महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै॥

Bhoot Pisach Nikat Nahin Aave, Mahabir Jab Naam Sunave.

Evil spirits, ghosts, and negative energies cannot even come near when one utters your sacred name, Mahavira.

चौपाई 25

नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा। जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा॥

Nase Rog Hare Sab Peera, Japat Nirantar Hanumat Beera.

All diseases vanish and all suffering is destroyed for whoever continually chants the holy name of heroic Hanuman.

चौपाई 26

संकट तें हनुमान छुड़ावै। मन क्रम बचन ध्यान जो लावै॥

Sankat Te Hanuman Chhudave, Man Kram Bachan Dhyan Jo Lave.

Lord Hanuman frees from all adversity those who meditate upon him with thought, deed, and word.

चौपाई 27

सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा। तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा॥

Sab Par Ram Tapaswi Raja, Tin Ke Kaj Sakal Tum Saja.

Sri Rama, the supreme ascetic king, reigns over all; you accomplished all of His divine missions with devotion.

चौपाई 28

और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै। सोई अमित जीवन फल पावै॥

Aur Manorath Jo Koi Lave, Soi Amit Jeevan Phal Pave.

Whatever wish or sincere desire a devotee brings before you, they attain the infinite nectar-fruit of life.

चौपाई 29

चारों जुग परताप तुम्हारा। है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा॥

Charon Jug Partap Tumhara, Hai Parsiddha Jagat Ujiyara.

Your glory shines across all four cosmic ages; your fame is celebrated and brightens the entire cosmos.

चौपाई 30

साधु-संत के तुम रखवारे। असुर निकंदन राम दुलारे॥

Sadhu Sant Ke Tum Rakhware, Asur Nikandan Ram Dulare.

You are the guardian of saints and sages, the destroyer of negative forces, and beloved of Lord Rama.

चौपाई 31

अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता। अस बर दीन जानकी माता॥

Ashta Siddhi Nau Nidhi Ke Data, As Bar Deen Janki Mata.

You are the granter of the Eight Supernatural Powers and Nine Treasures, a boon blessed unto you by Mother Janaki.

चौपाई 32

राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा। सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा॥

Ram Rasayan Tumhre Pasa, Sada Raho Raghupati Ke Dasa.

You possess the supreme elixir of devotion to Rama; may you forever remain the devoted servant of Raghupati.

चौपाई 33

तुम्हरे भजन राम को पावै। जनम-जनम के दुख बिसरावै॥

Tumhre Bhajan Ram Ko Pave, Janam Janam Ke Dukh Bisrave.

Through singing your praises, one attains Lord Rama and transcends the sorrow of countless lifetimes.

चौपाई 34

अंत काल रघुबर पुर जाई। जहाँ जन्म हरि-भक्त कहाई॥

Anta Kaal Raghubar Pur Jai, Jahan Janma Hari-Bhakta Kahai.

At the end of life, the devotee enters Sri Rama's abode, and whenever reborn, they are known as a true devotee of Hari.

चौपाई 35

और देवता चित्त न धरई। हनुमत सेइ सर्ब सुख करई॥

Aur Devata Chitta Na Dharai, Hanumat Sei Sarba Sukh Karai.

Without needing to place thought in any other deity, serving Hanuman alone brings all true peace and bliss.

चौपाई 36

संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा। जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा॥

Sankat Katai Mitai Sab Peera, Jo Sumirai Hanumat Balbeera.

All troubles cease and all suffering is eliminated for one who remembers the mighty and heroic Hanuman.

चौपाई 37

जय जय जय हनुमान गोसाईं। कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं॥

Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosain, Kripa Karahu Gurudev Ki Naain.

Hail, hail, hail to Lord Hanuman, our master! Shower your divine grace upon us like a compassionate Guru.

चौपाई 38

जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई। छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई॥

Jo Sat Bar Path Kar Koi, Chhutahi Bandi Maha Sukh Hoi.

Whoever recites this prayer a hundred times is liberated from all worldly bondage and attains supreme joy.

चौपाई 39

जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा। होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा॥

Jo Yah Padhai Hanuman Chalisa, Hoy Siddhi Sakhi Gaurisa.

Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa attains spiritual perfection, with Lord Shiva Himself as witness.

चौपाई 40

तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा। कीजै नाथ हृदय मँह डेरा॥

Tulsidas Sada Hari Chera, Keejai Nath Hriday Mahn Dera.

Tulsidas is eternally the servant of the Lord. O Lord, please make your dwelling place forever in my heart.

समापन दोहा

पवनतनय संकट हरन मंगल मूरति रूप। राम लखन सीता सहित हृदय बसहु सुर भूप॥

Pavantanaye Sankat Haran, Mangal Murati Roop; Ram Lakhan Sita Sahit, Hriday Basahu Sur Bhoop.

O Son of the Wind, remover of all sorrows, the very embodiment of auspiciousness! King of the gods, reside in my heart forever along with Sri Rama, Lakshmana, and Mother Sita.

हनुमान चालीसा का नित्य पाठ करने से क्या लाभ होता है?

जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई, छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई। हनुमान चालीसा का पाठ करने से भय, संकट, रोग और शोक नष्ट होते हैं तथा मानसिक शांति, पराक्रम और प्रभु श्री राम की कृपा प्राप्त होती है।
